Bosch Dishwasher E15: Water in the Base Pan
E15 means your Bosch has found water in the base pan underneath the tub. A float switch down there has tripped the leak protection, so the machine keeps its drain pump running and refuses to start a cycle. The water is almost always real: something inside the machine is leaking, and the job is to find out what before replacing anything.

What does E15 mean on a Bosch dishwasher?
Bosch describes E15 as its safety switch finding water in the base of the dishwasher, with the leak protection system switched on. Under the tub sits a shallow pan with a float in it. When water collects in the pan, the float rises, the control board reads it as a leak and the machine stops washing so the water cannot reach your floor and cabinets.
The constant pumping you hear is the protection doing its job, not a second fault.
How much does it cost to fix a Bosch dishwasher E15?
We do not quote a part before we have found the leak. The same code can come from a door gasket, a pump seal or a water inlet valve, and those are different parts and different jobs. You get the full price in writing after the diagnostic, before any work starts.
What causes E15 on a Bosch dishwasher?
| Source of the water | How common | What gives it away |
|---|---|---|
| Sump seal | Most common | Slow weeping at the sump under the tub while the machine runs |
| Circulation or drain pump seal | Common | Dampness traced to a pump housing rather than the tub floor |
| Door gasket | Common | Drips down the inside of the door; gasket flattened or split at a corner |
| Water inlet valve or its fitting | Less common | Water under the machine even while it is switched off: the supply side stays under pressure |
| Float stuck in the pan | Occasional | No leak anywhere; debris or scale holds the float up |

Can you fix Bosch dishwasher E15 yourself?
Bosch’s own advice is to close the water supply and switch the dishwasher off, then have it checked. That is the right first move: as long as the leak is there, water keeps collecting under your cabinets.
One thing worth checking yourself: if you find water under the machine while it is switched off, close the supply valve under the sink straight away. That points to the inlet valve or its connection, which stay under pressure all the time.
You may read that tilting the machine back drains the pan and clears the code. It does, for a cycle or two. It does nothing about the leak. Never wedge the float down to silence it: that switch is the only thing standing between a leak and a floor repair.
Do you fix Bosch dishwashers in my area?
Yes. This repair was in Toronto, and we do the same job across the rest of the GTA and Simcoe County: 29 areas, same day in most of them, seven days a week, with no travel surcharge.
Questions we get about Bosch dishwasher E15
How much does it cost to fix a Bosch dishwasher?
Labour on an E15 starts at $180. The part depends on what the diagnosis finds, so we price it once we know what failed. The $79 diagnostic is waived when you go ahead, and you get the full price in writing before any work begins.
Is E15 always a bad seal?
No. Seals are the most common cause, but the door gasket and the water inlet valve produce the same code. On our latest E15 call in Toronto it was the inlet valve. That is why the leak gets traced before any part is ordered.
Can I just reset the E15 myself?
Draining the pan clears the code for a cycle or two, but the leak is still there. Bosch recommends closing the water supply and switching the machine off until it has been checked.
Can you come the same week I call?
Usually the same day. We work Monday to Sunday, 8 AM to 8 PM, across Toronto, the GTA and Simcoe County.
